Petaluma has a unique and fascinating history as a bustling river town during and after the Gold Rush\, then the “Chicken and Egg Capital of the World\,” and now a town that loves its history. Learn about Petaluma’s incredible architecture (including 8 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places) and other important and interesting facets of our town’s history. SUMMARY:Petaluma's Historic Downtown Churches: A Guided Tour
DESCRIPTION:Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see the inside of three of Petaluma’s historic churches\, with docents from Petaluma’s past!\nSunday\, May 21 – 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm\nPetaluma Historical Library and Museum\n$15.00 (Students and Children under 18 Free – please register for ticket)\nPurchase Tickets Here\nThe town of Petaluma was incorporated in 1958\, but the first church was founded in 1849. This guided tour will take you into three of Petaluma’s oldest houses of worship: the First Congregational Church (now Unitarian Universalists of Petaluma)\, St. John’s Episcopal Church\, and St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church. From outside and in\, you will see the stained glass windows\, sanctuaries\, and distinctive architecture. \nAt each location\, you will learn about the building’s architecture along with a brief history of the church. Your guides will be the Petalumans of Yesteryear\, personas from Petaluma’s past dressed in period attire. \nPlease note that you will start your tour at any one of the three churches\, and then rotate to the other two to complete your tour.
