DESCRIPTION:Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see the inside of three of Petaluma’s historic churches\, with docents from Petaluma’s past!\nSunday\, May 21 – 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm\nPetaluma Historical Library and Museum\n$15.00 (Students and Children under 18 Free – please register for ticket)\nPurchase Tickets Here\nThe town of Petaluma was incorporated in 1958\, but the first church was founded in 1849. This guided tour will take you into three of Petaluma’s oldest houses of worship: the First Congregational Church (now Unitarian Universalists of Petaluma)\, St. John’s Episcopal Church\, and St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church. From outside and in\, you will see the stained glass windows\, sanctuaries\, and distinctive architecture. \nAt each location\, you will learn about the building’s architecture along with a brief history of the church. Your guides will be the Petalumans of Yesteryear\, personas from Petaluma’s past dressed in period attire. \nPlease note that you will start your tour at any one of the three churches\, and then rotate to the other two to complete your tour. (Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.)\nClick here to purchase your tickets.\n\nGardens in bloom and lovely parlors of three heritage residences will offer a glimpse of Petaluma’s past within three periods of home styles. \nAn important tour stop will be the Garden Court of the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum\, where a Tea Service will be served by volunteers\, with historical commentary by our vintage-costumed Petalumans of Yesteryear. \nTickets would be a great Mother’s Day gift\, and lovely way to spend time with family and friends on Mother’s Day weekend. Ticket sales directly benefit the Petaluma Museum Association.  \nTickets are priced at $25 for adults and children over 12. (Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.) \n\nClick here to purchase your tickets.\nFAQ’s\nCan I walk to each home?\nAlthough some homes can be relatively close to each other\, this is not a walking tour. Please allow for time to drive\, park\, and view each home. \nHow accessible are the homes?\nEvery home has a unique style and architecture. Some homes have multiple steps getting into or out of the home. Parking may also not be directly in front. Please wear comfortable and safe attire to ease in walking. \nWhat will parking be like?\nSome homes will not have direct street parking. Side streets may be your best option for parking. If parking is very limited\, attendants will direct you to a queue to wait until parking is available. \nWhere do I get the home locations?\nThe tour brochure will be available at the museum prior to tour day with proof of ticket purchase. SUMMARY:Small Town Historic Surveying: A Case Study
DESCRIPTION:Home in Image Referred to as the Camm House – 700 D Street\nTuesday\, May 6 – 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm (first part of the HCPC meeting)\nPetaluma City Hall\, 11 English Street\n(or https://cityofpetaluma.org/meetings/)\nPreservation Architect Jerri Holan discusses why surveys of potential resources or buildings are the primary planning tool for identifying\, recording\, and evaluating historic properties. After describing the scope of these surveys\, she points out that funding for historical surveys is often lacking in small towns. She provides an example of a small town that used community volunteers to complete a windshield survey\, followed by a formal historical evaluation by a consultant. The surveying took a while but was a cost-effective solution for identifying resources within this small community. \n
