SUMMARY:Si Pudiera Quedarme / If I Could Stay - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:Sorry\, This Event Has Been Cancelled.\nEventbrite Ticket Purchases have been refunded.\n\nSunday\, September 27\, 4:30 -6:30 pm\nPetaluma Historical Library & Museum\n20 4th Street (Corner of 4th & B Street)\nSuggested donation $5-$10. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.\n\n\nJoin award-winning filmmaker Theo Rigby for a screening of Si Pudiera Quedarme / If I Could Stay\, followed by a conversation with Rigby and a special guest.\n\nFilmed over five years\, Si Pudiera Quedarme is an intimate and moving portrait of Jeanette and Ingrid\, two undocumented Latinx mothers who enter sanctuary in Bay Area churches rather than face deportation and separation from their families. \nAs the women navigate extraordinary uncertainty\, they organize\, advocate\, and build relationships with faith communities standing alongside them. Their stories illuminate the courage of families confronting the immigration system while exploring questions of sanctuary\, allyship\, power\, faith\, and what it means to truly belong. \nAt the center of the film are Jeanette and Ingrid themselves—not simply as people facing deportation\, but as leaders claiming their voices and mobilizing communities around them. Their journeys offer a powerful story of resilience\, family\, and the determination to create change. \nFollowing the approximately one-hour film\, stay for a conversation and audience Q&A with filmmaker Theo Rigby and a special guest. \nAbout Theo Rigby\n \nTheo Rigby is an award-winning San Francisco-based director\, cinematographer\, and interactive storyteller whose work has focused on the immigrant experience in the United States for more than a decade. He is the founder of iNation Media and the creator of projects including Waking Dream and Immigrant Nation. His films have been featured by The New York Times\, broadcast nationally on PBS’s POV\, and screened at Ellis Island\, the New York Film Festival\, and Cannes Film Festival. His film Sin País (Without Country) received a Student Academy Award. Rigby holds an MFA in Documentary Film from Stanford University and previously worked as an award-winning photojournalist. \nThis event is presented in conjunction with Belongings: What We Bring\, What We Leave Behind\, on view September 4–October 4\, 2026\, at the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum. The exhibition explores migration\, memory\, and belonging through the treasured objects and personal stories that connect us across generations. \nBelongings: What We Bring\, What We Leave Behind is made possible through the generous support of California Humanities through its Connecting California grant program. SUMMARY:Current Exhibit - Día de los Muertos Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Community altars and artwork honoring loved ones\, memory\, and the enduring traditions of Día de los Muertos. \n\n\nOctober 8 – November 8\, 2026\nPetaluma Historical Library & Museum\n20 4th Street (Corner of 4th & B Street)\nFree\, Donations Appreciated\nFrom October 8 through November 8\, our galleries will once again be filled with altars and artwork for our annual Día de los Muertos exhibition\, presented in partnership with El Día de los Muertos Petaluma. Created by community members\, the ofrendas are deeply personal expressions of remembrance. But together\, they also speak to something universal: the ways we carry stories\, traditions\, and the memories of those we love forward. \n\n\nThat spirit of memory and connection runs through a full month of programs this year. \nWe’ll begin with an Opening Reception on October 10\, welcoming the community to experience this year’s altars and artwork. On October 17\, Poesía del Recuerdo/Poetry of Remembrance offers another way to reflect\, remember\, and share stories. And on October 24\, the annual Candlelight Procession & Celebration brings the community together\, with the Museum remaining open into the evening. \nWe’re also introducing something new this year: A Spirited Tasting: Mezcal\, Morsels & Día de los Muertos on October 16. \nFeaturing La Luna Mezcal and Benesin Mezcal\, this special 21+ evening brings together four featured mezcals and four food pairings\, along with the opportunity to meet the people behind the spirits and hear stories of agave\, place\, craft\, and tradition. Guests can move between the tasting tables in the Garden Court and the Museum galleries\, experiencing the ofrendas and artwork along the way. \nIt’s an opportunity to think about food and drink as more than flavors. They can carry stories of landscape and agriculture\, family and community\, migration and memory\, connecting people and places across generations. \nAnd just as our Día de los Muertos programming winds down\, another story of remembrance—of a decidedly different kind—is waiting in the wings… \nOn October 30\, we’ll revive one of Petaluma’s more unusual traditions: The Houdini Séance\, held this year on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death. Inspired by the séances organized by legendary Petaluman Bill Soberanes beginning in 1964—many held right here at the Museum—the evening promises a little history\, a little mystery\, and perhaps a surprise or two.  After all\, some traditions are too good to stay buried. \nPlease visit the official site of El Dia de los Muertos\, Petaluma\nfor a complete list of Community Activities.\n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Petaluma’s Houdini Séance: The Centennial Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Some traditions are too good to stay buried. \n\n\n\n\nFor decades\, Petaluma had its own connection to the afterlife. \n\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, October 30  7 pm – 9 pm\nPetaluma Historical Library & Museum\n20 4th Street (Corner of 4th & B Street)\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\nBeginning in 1964\, legendary local journalist Bill Soberanes—affectionately known as “Mr. Petaluma”—gathered believers\, skeptics\, magicians\, and the simply curious each Halloween season for an annual séance attempting to contact the spirit of Harry Houdini. Many of these spirited gatherings took place right here at the Petaluma Museum. \nBut Petaluma’s fascination with the mysterious and fantastic goes back even further. Spiritualists were holding séances here in the 19th century\, and local legend even has it that Houdini himself once performed in town. \nNow\, 100 years after Houdini’s death\, we’re bringing the tradition back to life. \nJoin us on October 30—the eve of the centennial of Houdini’s death—for an unforgettable evening of history\, magic\, mystery\, and perhaps a message or two from beyond. \nThe evening begins with a spirited pre-séance reception\, featuring bewitching cocktails and tempting small bites\, tarot\, magic\, curious bits of local history\, and other mysterious diversions still to be revealed. \nThen\, the lights dim. The medium takes their place. And the circle gathers once again. \nThere’s one more wrinkle: before his death\, Houdini and his wife\, Bess\, devised a secret code that could be used to prove whether Harry had truly managed to communicate from the other side. \nMeet Our Medium\nGuiding us into the unknown will be Jenessa Wyatt\, a highly sought-after Sonoma County psychic medium known for bringing warmth\, humor\, and an approachable spirit to her work. Before calling upon our guest of honor\, Jenessa will reach out to the spirit realm\, opening the evening to the possibility of connection. \nAs the evening builds toward its finale\, Jenessa will lead us in the centennial séance with one very particular spirit in mind: Harry Houdini. A century after his death… Will we hear from Houdini? \nCome curious. Come skeptical. Just don’t come expecting an ordinary night at the Museum. \nChoose Your Place in the Circle\nTHE INNER CIRCLE — $100\nSéance Table\n100 years. One seat at the table. Take your place in the séance circle for the evening’s closest and most immersive experience. Seating is extremely limited. \nTHE GATHERING — $50\nMain Floor | Standing Room\nSurround the circle and experience the séance from the main floor as the evening unfolds. \nTHE BEYOND — $40\nMezzanine\nWatch from above as the séance unfolds below\, from the Museum’s historic mezzanine. \n21 and over please. All tickets include admission to the pre-séance reception. \nBeliever or skeptic\, there’s only one way to find out. \nIs anybody there?
